Butler Motor Speedway, INC rules

All divisions will have the following rules:



1. All divisions must be ready to warm up or race when the white flag is thrown for previous warm up session or race, a chain will be drawn across staging lane. If you are not in line you will not warm up or race. No drivers or crewmembers are allowed in the timing tower.

2. All divisions will be required to have an individual to be their representative.

3. Working mufflers.

4. Fireproof driving uniforms and gloves. No leather, etc. SEMA approved helmets. Neck Collars Mandatory in all classes.

5. Racing seats. Aluminum mandatory in 1998.

6. Five point safety belts, sub belts, shoulder harness required. No factory type shoulder belts or straps should be used. Metal to metal buckles are required on shoulder and seat belts. The shoulder harness shall be mounted securely to the roll cage. Seat belts and shoulder harness recommended not being more than one year old.

7. Kill switch required within easy reach of driver. This switch shall be clearly marked “off and on”.

8. Window nets mandatory. Must be securely mounted.

9. No radio communications.

10. Fuel cells (all divisions).

11. No mirrors

12. No cars will return to the track after the green flag has been displayed.

13. Neck Collars Mandatory in ALL Classes.

14. If any rule has been omitted, final decision is the Speedway Officials. RULE ENFORCEMENT

All cars are subject to weight rule. Cars will be weighted on platform scales. The Race Director will be responsible for enforcement of the rules at anytime before or after event.



SCORING RULES

All scoring shall be done by the competing lap. All restarts will revert back to the last completed lap. Visible numbers have been a problem in the past. All cars shall have visible numbers that are contrasting color with the car. All decisions of the scorers are final. If you have a question, please wait until the racing program is over. No one will be allowed in the control tower at any time.

The following time limits will be placed on each event at the discretion of speedway officials:

 15 minutes maximum per Heat Race  15 minutes maximum per B-Main

After the time limit has expired, a white flag will be displayed, followed by the checkered flag.

NOTE: WE WILL NO LONGER HOLD UP ANY EVENT FOR CHANGING OF FLAT TIRES.

A two stop rule will be enforced. Any driver stopping on the track for any reason unless directed by an official, will be sent to the pits. ANY DRIVER STOPPED TWICE IN AN EVENT WILL BE SENT TO THE PITS. A three stop rule will apply in the feature only.

POINT SYSTEM

All non-sanctioned races, plus the season championship, will be for points. Any sanctioned race will be left to the discretion of the promoter. Points will not be recorded until the car is registered and the $10 registration fee is paid.

Detroit Iron Division



This division is becoming one of the nicest looking Stock car divisions in Michigan! Keep it up! No cars will be able to run if it looks like it just came out of a demo derby!

Car & Body

1. 1970 or newer American made stock passenger automobile with factory steel top. Sunroofs and T-tops must be reinforced and enclosed.

2. 105” wheel base minimum. No tolerance.

3. All bodies must be stock appearing. Car Bodies MAY be interchanged on Frames for instance 95 Monte Carlo, Grand Prix may be put on 1976 frame. No altering or channeling of body allowed. The fenders may be trimmed (within reason) for tire clearance only. ALL SHARP EDGES, TORN FENDERS AND BODY PANELS TO BE REPAIRED PRIOR TO NEXT RACE. FENDERS, DOOR, QUARTER MAY BE REPLACED WITH ALUMINUM OR STEEL TOP OF FENDER & QUARTER MUST REMAIN STOCK. 50" rear spoiler 8" HIGH WITH 3 VERTICALS.



4. Full floorboards must remain intact and visible with a metal firewall separating the drive from the fuel tank and trunk area. Stock floor pan in drivers compartment may add Aluminum R/Side and back of driver no higher than a 3" drop Front and Rear.

5. Firewall between engine and driver must be in stock position. All holes must be covered.

6. Interior tin is Okay.

7. Four vertical safety bars constructed of ¼” (minimum) steel stock located not more than 3” apart, shall be centered in windshield area in font of driver, and welded to roll cage.

8. All doors must be secured shut (welded, bolted, etc.).

9. The front inner & rear wheel wells may be removed.

10. All hoods and trunks must remain stock and must be securely fastened. Hood pins and trunk pins.

11. No wings, skirts, air scoops, or anything that alters the stock appearance.

12. Driveshaft loop is required and must be constructed of at least ¼”X2”steel and should be mounted no more than 6” from the front of driveshaft.

13. Brakes on all four wheels must work. Brakes will be checked.

14. Bumpers must be in stock locations. Rear bumpers may be capped to fender. After market bumper covers allowed.

15. Car number must be clearly marked 24” height and 3” stripe width. Car numbers must be one or tow digits only.

16. Must have tow chain on front and rear of car.

17. Batteries must be securely mounted and shielded. Batteries can be relocated.

Suspension

1. Must be original type suspension, some reinforcing (double nuts, washers, etc.) is allowed.

2. No after market parts allowed.

3. No racing shocks, springs, etc…

4. Jack bolts are Okay.

Transmission and Rear End

1. Transmission must be OEM automatic, or disc-type clutch on a manual transmission only. No coupler or multi-disc clutches allowed. No aluminum flywheels.

2. No quick change. (five bolt pattern only)

3. Rear end may be welded.



Tires and Wheels

1. Tires are to be 60 & 70 series tires, P245 McCreary, Oakshade Hoosiers, Hartford Good Year. Tires no bigger than 10 1/2 cross section. McCreary only tire sold at track.

2. Wheel 8" Maximum width. Steel wheels mandatory. Right wheels recommended.

3. Right front racing wheel mandatory. Oversize lug nuts mandatory. 5/8" stud on R/Side. Carburetor

1. Holly 2 barrel 4412 carburetor only with adapter plate. Must be stock appearing 3000 pounds.

2. Pump gas only.

3. Q Jet 4 board Okay with 3100 lbs and over.

Engine

1. The engine must be stock appearing for that model and make and in the original mounts (GM-GM, Ford-Ford, etc…) Screw in stud’s 3/8” max diameter. Stock rocker arms, flat tappetcams. No aluminum heads.

2. Low profile aluminum intake ok. No hi-rise.

3. Under chassis header ok. Exhaust must extend past driver seat. Exhaust systems must be securely mounted.

4. No electrical fuel pumps allowed.

5. Stamped steel roller tip rockers with ball for stud ok.

Roll Cage **Safety Safety Safety!!!!!!!

**Professionally built roll cages only!!**

1. A full perimeter four post roll cage with X brace in rear must be used. Roll bar padding, mandatory on any surronding drivers head.

2. Three door bars on driver’s side must be used. Maximum 2”X1/4” skid bars allowed from wheel well to wheel well must be painted same as car. Door bars on passenger side horizontal with full X brace.

3. Bottom door bar must be connected to frame rail with 2 short upright.

4. Stock front sub to be connected as per Dia frame can be no wider than tread width, must have stock rear sup mounts, rear front to remain stock in front of axle to middle of rear. Stock rear frame section from the original spring mounts to the center of the rear axle MUST remain stock. From the center of the rear axle to the rear bumper frame rail can be changed to a minimum 2X2 square tubing. MAKE SURE FRONT SPRING MOUNTS REMAIN STOCK!

5. Must be within confines of body, but no wider than stock frame rails.

6. Kickers off roll cage are allowed. One single front hoop with maximum of four uprights, mounted parallel to the front frame, no further back than the firewall. Must stay confined inside the body.

7. No reinforcement of bumpers allowed.

8. Absolutely no galvanized pipe allowed.

9. Because of some rust frame rails, you may need to plate or box rusty areas.

Fuel Cells

1. Fuel Cell protection bar mandatory, mounted frame rail to frame rail, no higher than the fuel cell and inside the trunk area. Minimum 1 ¾” pipe. Cell must be completely enclosed in a steel container. Maximum 22 gallons.

2. All cells to have a minimum of 2 mounting straps of 1½” wide X 1/8” thick strapping.

RULES AND GUIDELINES FOR LATE MODELS

DECK lid height!  Maximum with Hoosiers is 36", maximum with McCreary is 37" and maximum with Goodyear is 37 1/2".

1. All cars must have fuel cells, 32 gal. max. in completely enclosed 18 gal. steel container. All cells to have a minimum of 22" X 1/8" steel strap surrounding them. Fuel cells can not be lower than bottom of quick change.

2. Minimum 1 1/4 O.D. tubing braced hoop behind cell. This hoop must be in place at all times.

3. Fire resistant uniform and snell 95 helmet 95 or higher required of all late model drivers.

4. Fire resistant underwear, socks, shoes and gloves recommended. But not required.

5. On board fire extinguisher required. Halon fire extinguisher system recommended. But not required.

6. A 1 1/2" X 1/8" steel drive shaft hoop mandatory.

7. All round tube chassis must be a minimum of 1 3/4 outside diameter tubing, with minimum wall thickness of .083. Must used 4130 chrome moly steel.

8. 1/8" aluminum, or 18 gal steel shield floorboard for driver protection from driveshaft.

9. Rear offsets are illegal. Rear of car cannot extend wider than the rear tire.

10. NO mirrors allowed.

11. NO radios allowed in race car, on any pit member, or anyone connected with race car.

12. No rear pushbars to extend over 6' beyond rear quarter panel.

13. No adjustable shocks, hydraulic, or pneumatic weight jacks, tracker, or similar adjustable componets of any kind inside of cockpit of car. N taping ver. Must be removed from car.

14. the firewall at the front of the cockpit shall be a wall of protection against fire from the engine compartment. It shall be tightly solid from top to bottom. Not allowing air flowfrom the engine compartment into the cockpit.

15. No wheel rotation device of any kind allowed. No controlled timing device attached to or controlling accelerator or spin or rotation of wheel allowed. No controlling of wheel spin by any device, wheather it be sensor, magnet, radio frequency or anything else.

16. Engines: Max. 6" setback from center of ball joint to fron spark plug hole. No tolerance!

17. One 4 barrel carburetor. No fuel injection. No electric fuel pumps.

18. No nitrous oxide, nitrous methane, or propolene oxide.

19. All engines limited to 1 spark plug and 2 valves per cylinder. No dual magnetos.

20. All headers must be pointed away from ground. Horizontal. Preferably to outside of car.

21. Tires: tire rubber compound must be 55 hardness on all. Tires must fit Rear only Butler tire hoop. Compound softners are not permitted. A durometer will be used to check. You may run the Hoosier LM40, Hoosier D55, McCreary EC2 or EC3. Also the new McCreary that is out (not sure as to what the name of it is). The only tires sold at the track are the McCreary tires.

22. There will be no defacing or altering of manufacturing I.D. markings on the tire. You may not remove any letters, words, or numbers that would identify the tire by inspectors at any time. All money an points will be forfeited.

23. Mud plugs must be foam or bolted behind bead lock, securely to wheel. Any driver using metal or plastic mud plug that is not securely bolted to wheel behind the bead lock is subject to a $200.00 fine and a possible law suit if driver loses metal or plastic mud plugon race track.

24. These violations are to be corrected in the prescribed time.

25. No direct drives allowed. Must be able to shift forward or reverse with engine running.

26. Mufflers are mandatory.

27. On a yellow or red flag any car that goes to the pit area may reenter the race at the rear provided the green flag has not been given.

28. Any incident considered to be "rough driving" or "unsportsmanlike" will be dealt with by officials. The driver will be black flagged and fined $100.00 for the first offense. In the event of a 2nd offense, the driver will be out for two complete racing events and receive a $100.00 fine.

29. Driver meetings are mandatory! Track rules differ and you need to be aware of the changes.

30. Body must conform to attached late model.
